The first five steps into the show ring are a critical part of the showing process. The exhibitors first impression on the judge needs to be positive and influential. No matter what species you’re showing the first five steps can be huge. Here’s some quick tips for maximizing your first five steps.

    1. Head up (all species).
    2. Collected travel.
    3. Eye Contact.
    4. Ring Awareness.
    5. Proper Spacing.

Set up a designated gate and mock area at home and have weekly ring entry practice to fine tune this critical part of showing. Parent’s and coaches video the practice so you can show the kids what they looked like and how they performed. Your county shows are a great place to emphasize showmanship and practice these skills.
