Feed Consultant
Joel was born and raised in Midland County, Texas. He is a graduate of Midland High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Abilene Christian University and his Master’s in Agricultural Education and Animal Science from Sam Houston State University.
Joel is currently employed as a Livestock and Nutrition Consultant with Jacoby Feed and Seed of Melvin, Texas. He is a former FFA advisor with 31 years of experience. For 23 of those years, he was employed by Seminole ISD. While at Seminole, he coached three state champion judging teams and had one fifth-place national team.
During his tenure, Joel’s two sons exhibited three Grand Champion and six Reserve Grand Champion Overall lambs at the Texas major stock shows. Joel’s family farm has produced many champion lambs both in Texas and nationally, including the Grand Champion at the Minnesota State Fair, the Eastern New Mexico State Fair, and the Reserve Grand Market Lamb and Supreme Champion Jr. Breeding Ewe at the San Antonio Stock Show.
Joel has two sons: Cody and his wife Amanda of Milford, Nebraska, continue the winning tradition by raising show lambs and Hampshire breeding stock. Joel’s youngest son, Rusty, of Plains, Texas, is the County Extension Agent for Yoakum County.
Joel’s wife, Kem, is a retired 4th grade teacher with 38 years of service. In 2023, Joel was inducted into the Texas Agriculture Teachers Association Hall of Fame.
