If you’re from West Texas, the Panhandle, North Texas or far East Texas then chances are good, your trip to one or more major shows this year, is measured in hours and not in minutes to your destination. The farther the trip, the bigger the disadvantage becomes in terms of your animals arriving in competitive shape. 5 tips for successful hauling: 1. Haul on clean fresh bedding. 2. Weigh, feed and drench just prior to leaving. 3. Stop and hydrate every 3 to 3 1/2 hours. 4. Maintain cool trailer temps. 5. Always take the time to visually inspect each lamb or goat, as well as check out the handle and hide freshness at each stop. Avoid over crowding! Pro Tip - Plan your stops based on your animal’s time in the trailer, with hydration and nutrition in mind.
