August and September can be the toughest feeding time for club lambs and goats. The heat and high energy show rations can lead to animals backing off from their feed, because of gut health issues. This often can affect a small percentage of your livestock. Acidosis seems to rear its ugly head for some sheep and goats this time of year, as well.
Here is a list of supportives that you can have on hand to help get those show lambs and goats back on track:
•Buffer Gel by Vets Plus Inc. or the version by Blue Ribbon are both great products to get that rumen ph balanced again.
•Vitamin B Complex injectable can help kickstart their appetite. (1-2 times monthly)
•Intramuscular injections of Predef 2x can also stimulate an appetite on more troublesome animals. (Vet Script Required.)
•A good quality paste or liquid probiotic should be administered during times of gastric distress.
Pro Tip - Don’t forget a good coarse roughage daily. Hay Grazer (Sudan Grass Hay) is a great choice!
Thanks and good luck with your Show Stock!
