I have been a presenter and coach at the Howard College Sheep and Goat Camps and most recently the Kaufman County Sheep and Goat Clinic this summer. I was impressed with the students that attended these camps and the interest level of the parents, ag teachers and county extension agents that participated in these clinics either as instructors or actually bringing students to the camps. That leads me to the subject at hand---“Showmanship”. I would encourage any exhibitors that attend the camps to take what you learned this summer and put it to the test at an upcoming jackpot or fair. There is no substitute for the experience you gain from ring time at an actual show. The fall is a prime time to find a practice show or two and get the kids out as well as the livestock for some experience building. In the great state of Texas, there are many shows of different sizes and flavors. The important thing is to get that priceless ring time. Experience is essential for each student’s success as a showman. Thanks again to the Kaufman Co volunteers and the Howard College Ag Dept for providing the much-needed opportunities for our young people. Thanks to Jacoby Feed and Seed for sponsoring the great awards and prizes at the camps and clinics. Check out the flyer on the TLBA show coming up in October. This again will be an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience as well as the chance to win some valuable awards and scholarships. Thanks and good luck with your show stock!
