    FALL BOOSTER SHOTS”

    Joel Lanier- Jacoby’s Feed Consultant

Summer is in the final days with September around the corner. September is a good month to schedule all important preventative injections to keep your sheep and goats healthy as we transition to fall. A booster vaccination for overeating and tetanus is cheap insurance against these deadly diseases: Bar Vac CDT by Boehringer Ingelheim or Essential 3 + T by Colorado Serum are good cost-effective vaccines.

“PRO TIP”—Sept is a great month to get your sheep/goats cleaned up from blood sucking parasites such as nasal bots, lice and mange. Use subcutaneous injections of either Ivomec cattle and swine injectable wormer or Dectomax cattle and swine injectable. For sheep use 2 cc per head. For goats follow the label directions precisely for cattle. These recommendations are NOT FOR MARKET ANIMALS going to the STATE FAIR of TEXAS or any fall fair that is terminal. Animals returning home from the STATE FAIR of TEXAS can follow this protocol in late Sept or Oct. Thanks, and good luck with your show stock.
