“TIME IS GETTING CLOSE!”

Critical time for evaluating your club lamb and goats!! Lots of county shows are just 90-100 days away! You probably have sheep and goats in one of these three phases by now---too ready, still behind, or hopefully, on track to put on mass and maturity in time for your all important county show.

Now is the time to formulate your game plan for the final drive.

* If your animal is getting fat, you may need to adjust your ration to a higher protein and hit the track.

* If you are behind on cover, now is the time to top dress with more energy or increase the amount of feed you are putting on.

“PRO TIPS---Sheep and goats start to put on more cover as the daylight hours shorten and nighttime temps start to fall. We’ve been extremely hot but I’m seeing sheep really converting and putting on fat quickly the last 30 days. It’s easier to push sheep/goats with nutrition and exercise than trying to get an overdone one looking and handling right. Take time for a serious evaluation now!
