Monthly intramuscular injections are recommended for your show lambs and kids. B-1, thiamine is a co factor for carbohydrate metabolism and enables conversion of blood sugar to biological energy. B-1 provides energy for brain function and improves nerve impulses to the nerve cells. Vitamin B-12, cyanocobalamin, is essential for energy metabolism and the production of red blood cells. B-12 is vital for iron absorption. B-12 is an essential part of the enzyme system involved in energy production from ruminal fermentation. The bottom line is that monthly injections B-1 , B-12 or B complex will wart off possible deficiencies like thiamine deficiency and anemia. Interference from stress, sickness, or medications like sulpha drugs or Corid can set up poor absorption and utilization resulting in potential problems. Pro Tip- Alternate your vitamins monthly- one month give 1 cc B-1 along with 2 cc B-12 intramuscular. The next month give 2 to 3 cc B complex. This way you are getting the full array of B vitamins.
